The Quest
THE BEGINNING
stanzas 1 to 99

1

For ages veiled mysteries had been forming.
In their details is all that has come to be.
Now the covering veils are falling,
Shapes, knowledge, actions are emerging,
Behind the mysteries Paradise has formed,
What quests have led to what is now before us?

2

Voices raise, spirits manifest to answer this question,
Some are prophets, some are destroyers, some only searching.
Some say seeming plan and order is illusion,
Some say they have communicated with the intelligence that has brought all

into being,
Many have spent their lives in aimless wandering,
Where is truth in all of this?

3

Two sides emerge.
One speaks of plan, purpose, the creator, their Father.
The other speaks of illusion, aimlessness, self.

4

Which is the way of Paradise or its destruction that now lies just ahead?
It is knowing and being in harmony with what is meant by "creator", "plan",

"Father"?
Or is it choosing the way that all being, power, and ultimate knowledge
resides in self?

5

The time of beginning had come,
But still a little while remained,
"Oh canst a soul live in peace;
"Or must it die forever in torment?
To answer this QUEST had been his mission.

6

Now standing as he was before The Father,
In this last moment before the beginning,
His time had come say whether he had accomplished that upon which he had been

sent;
Or if he had failed and wouldst be sent again,
Once again to tred the road of searching.

7

Then The Father Spoke:---

"I HAVE SENT MANY BEFORE YOU TO SEARCH,
"AND THEN TO TEACH THE WAY OF TRUTH AND RIGHTEOUSNESS,
"SOME HAVE PREPARED GREAT PARTS OF MANKIND FOR PEACE.
"OTHERS HAVE FAILED AND PROSTITUTED THE VISION I HAVE SHOWN

THEM.

8

"EACH WAS SHOWN THE PARTS OF PARADISE.
"SOME SAW THEM CLEARLY WHILE OTHERS TURNED AWAY.
"IN HOW THEY ARE SEEN NOW IN THIS MOMENT JUST BEFORE THE BEGINNING,
"LIES WHETHER CREATION OR DESTRUCTION WILL BE THE VICTOR.

9

"SPEAK TO ME NOW OF WHAT YOU HAVE SEEN.
"YOU HAVE BEEN SHOWN THE PARTS OF PEACE.
"YOU HAVE BEEN GIVEN THE QUEST AS WERE THE OTHERS.
"ARE YOU READY NOW FOR THE TASK UPON WHICH YOU WILL BE SENT?

10

Thus at a time of beginning,
Some who do not understand call it death,
Was another soul asked what it had learned within the time it had been given.

11

He knew that now he must lay all before Him.
He stood as it were that which was all mankind,
For in truth he had at last found all,
And could now say that he had found the QUEST.

12

Speaking then as he was asked this question,
He who was again to be a prophet said:---

--- LIFE AND ITS PURPOSE ---

13

I find this has troubled the minds of humans since life's very dawn.
In this I found the QUEST Father.
I have brought with me now the way at last of knowing its understanding,
But even more,---of saying it in the words of mankind and truly believing.
Shall I say it to see if any now have ears to hear?

14

"SEAL UP ITS SAYING NO LONGER,
"THE TIME OF ENDING ITS MYSTERY HAS COME,
"SAY HOW IT HAS TASTED, HOW IT HAS FELT AS YOU PENETRATED ITS

MYSTERY,
"THE TIME HAS COME OF FULFILLING WHAT HAS BEEN PROMISED."

15

Before I found its answer in my heart was pain and sorrow,
My body was wracked with the disease and death not knowing its answer brings,
Blood dripped from my hands and clothing,
As like a child much learning was still before me.

16

I looked while I was still a child,
For the path of looking away from the pain of others,
Thinking that if within myself did peace abide,
That then about me would peace also come,
Through my own soul at peace.

17

Many were they who told me in this I would find you.
But then I realized that they led me only away.
Their words were those of ending just their own pain,
That through self worship they could ignore those whom

their actions were killing.

18

They spoke of peace but lived unmoved in the depth of sorrow.
They smiled with their lips but nourished the ways of destroying others in

their hearts.
Their love was the way of exclusion rather than bringing all together.

19

Their lives were a hollow shell of glitter and deeds for others to see for

their own self serving,
Being with such a purpose crumbled around them,
As they sought for You to give them escape from what their obsession with self
had wrought.

20

Then I looked upon another quarter,
And I thought only of others and never of myself.
And my cities crumbled around me,
And death followed in my footsteps,
And my cloak was that of the cries of the dying.

21

Never could I walk without the clutching of this cloth of blackness.
My sorrow bore me to the brink of forsaking even the life You had given me.
Oh Father I cried out to You as this came to me, and you heard me not,
And therein I came to to know that in this too the QUEST would not be found.

22

Then it came to me that in knowing self or knowing others only,
Was in truth only thinking,
But that You had taught me as a child how to build,
How to love by DOING instead of wishing,
How to create a universe itself if You should give it to me to do,
Or bring world peace in but one day.

23

Then I brushed with You as if I were beside You.
It was the brink,
It was the threshold,
It was the coming of the bride to become one with he is to be her soul from

that time forth.

24

Then you spoke to me and this time I heard you speaking,
But yours were not yet words I understood.
They were a language not yet understood by mankind.
Yet Your words were the sounds I hear all about me.

25

I knew that if I could but say these words,---
But then there was a little more I had not yet found.
Was the more to be said?
Or was it something to be done?
Yes, - then again I brushed with You as I asked this question.

26

The first I found of the QUEST was the one word "ACTION".
That I must do,
That I must love not by thinking alone.
But then I did not know the meaning of the word "LOVE",
So you sent me forth again to find its understanding.

--- LOVE ---

27

"Love" and "Action" were the two words that brought me to You,
But did not yet give me Your understanding.
If I could but find the meaning of the one word "Love",
Then the way of the Quest would open before me.

28

"AND DID YOU FIND LOVE AND ITS MEANING?"
The Father questioned.

29

"Yes", that soul unfolding answered.
That when all has come together,
Then is Love the word which says it.

30

And although it be two of mankind which have become one,
Or whether it be the heat of the sun falling in its warmness upon a small

seed lying in the ground,
That herein has Love come to be,
That in togetherness is Love.

31

That from that furnace of almighty power,
Springs life itself in man,
Springs the twig from the tree at the end of Winter,
Springs the tiny shoot which in but a few of Your days,
Becomes a blossom radiant in the beauty of You it reflects.

32

It is bringing together which is love.
It is as water flowing down through a bed of sand
Searching out each tiny grain to cover it with the kindness of its moisture,
This is the way in which two souls become as one.
They search each other out as the sand and the water,
Until they can be told only by the beauty they create,
And no longer are they the separate parts which made them be.

33

And now I know Love can be understood,
That no longe must it be an accident befalling only those who unknowingly

have found Your way.
That it is by ACTION WITHOUT DESTRUCTION that togetherness is won,
And then with this by Your love and power.
Do you give the gift without description.

34

Herein did I find at last,
That destroying is away from You,
And putting together is the way of peace.
Therein could I at last speak with firmness in my voice, Decision in my actions, and assurance in my manner.
I could say the way of peace in but three words,---

NO MORE DESTRUCTION

35

(INSERT)

(For comparison the following states the preceding in the amoral and sterile language of the time when this was written:)

THE PURPOSE OF BEING: -

What is this device (being) designed to do? It seems to be something that measures and then arranges what is measured in a manner of graduated magnitudes. The longer the arrangement, the more complex the state of "being". An arrangement becoming smaller (effecting and being effected by fewer differences), seems to trigger a process of finding an alternative criterion for arrangement, that halts or reverses the "lower level of effectability" condition. Thus it appears that this device (being) has been designed to accomplish a constant or increasing level of effectability. Such a process could be a definition for "creation". Thus the "purpose of this device" (being) seems to be creation. (Added note: Consider "difference arranging" as an algorithm for mitosis and gestation.)

36

But then the Father answered:---

"YOU HAVE SPOKEN OF LOVE (FITTING TOGETHER, CREATION)
IN WORDS WHICH, THOUGH THEY HAVE BEAUTY,
"STILL SAY LITTLE OF HOW LOVE MAY BE FOUND,
"TO SPEAK BEAUTY BUT NOT DESCRIBE THE WAY OF DOING IS NOT

RIGHTEOUSNESS,
"DID YOU FIND THE ACTION WHICH IS LOVE?

--- MARRIAGE ---

37

Marriage is the Action which is love,
Marriage is the Action which follows thinking.
But then I found that marriage is not the words mankind calls it,
And once again more of the QUEST lay before me.

38

I found that they whose lives have come to fit together,
Though by the minds of men who do not understand they may be called apart,
Before You are such as these always married,
And it is they who would tear such as these apart who do the sinning,
Not they who thus come together.

39

But the paths of mankind describing marriage were long and devious,
And searching those long paths for You was part of what detained me for so

long in the QUEST.
I thought at first in marriage that love was all,
And naught else mattered if it was present,
But then I found that love was always torn from me by something I had not yet
learned.

40

It was difficult for me to learn it seemed so foreign,
But at last I came to know it for it's truth,
That only in all and not just myself living without destruction,
Would any love or marriage I had found not be taken from me.

41

Marriage I came to know was more than just emotion, just thinking, just

experiencing.
It was doing in such a way that not only myself and the one whom I held so
dear to me was not destroyed,
But also all else about me being assured as myself,
That the gifts they had found would not be taken from them.
Therein did I gain the understanding in wisdom of marriage.

42

I told they who listened to me,
That they needed not to know themselves,
Rather, that if they knew others so well that therein did they end destruction,
Then as a mirror in them would shine the love they had brought to others,
And then they would reap the harvest of marriage as the gifts given for love,
That in this would they find true marriage.

--- CHILDREN ---

43

"AND DID YOU DESCRIBE THE HARVEST OF MARRIAGE?"

44

Children are the harvest,
I told this as a symbol.
And I told it also as the baby lying loved in the arms of its mother,
As the mother lies protected by he who has wakened the force of creation

within her.

45

That a child is a little bit of Your soul taken from you,
And placed within the care of two mortals for a brief time,
That theirs is to make the little body and life be,
In which the little part of You is placed by them.

46

That if they did it not well,
They had not fulfilled their part of the QUEST.
That only after they had finished putting the soul which had been placed in

their keeping in the tiny body they had made,
And it had become a part of peace,
That only then could they look upon Your face and see it smile.

47

And the children of the other parts of mankind which are not lives but works,
I said were even as that which comes from the womb of Your image,
That there must be a soul breathed into works even as into a tiny body,
So that they too become a part of Your plan which is NO MORE DESTRUCTION.

48

That the children of the ground married to the hands of men,
Are the bins of grain and baskets of the harvest.
That the children of the mountains married to the machines made by men who

have come to know You,
Are the shelters and the buildings so that all shall no longer feel poverty,
sorrow, or death from want.

49

That when Your soul is breathed into each of these children,
That no longer are the mountains hurled against the lives of the meek,
And the world no longer flows in the blood of the innocent,
And the wheat lies no longer in the fields unharvested while there is dying

of starvation.

--- GIVING ---

50

"BUT DID YOU TELL MANKIND HOW TO BRING FORTH CHILDREN

RIGHTEOUSLY?"

51

By giving.
I taught that to give is to know You,
But that to covet leaves naught but one's self for strength in time of need.
And few did I find who knew,
That they who have received the most are those who have given the most.
Many were those who looked upon those with more with covetousness,
Rather than seeking to learn how also to give.

52

Seldom did aught come asking how they could give,
But my heart was sad because I saw also they who gave but did not receive,
And in this I knew that to tell mankind only to give,
Would lead many astray should they believe my words.

53

Therefore I gave to mankind a new commandment.
"Was it even as I told you to give?"
Yes, I said it even as You had revealed it to me,
And it was at the time of their greatest need,
That they received it as a new law even as You had promised.
I revealed to mankind that Your new commandment is:

"LIVE IN BALANCE"

54

Thus it is now murder of someone born earlier dying of either material or

spiritual starvation,
To produce a third life per couple before all such killing is ended,
The punishment for this or any other kind of murder is henceforth to give up
one's ability to produce more lives.
Also see stanza 341

55

And I spoke it again in another manner by saying:
"It is as much a sin to take more out of life than you put in,
"As it is to put more into life than can be taken out.

56

For they who truly believe and have faith,
Know they should neither hoard or waste,
And only fools take without replacing,
And only those separated from You give without receiving.

57

But many who felt themselves righteous,
Could not at first perceive how they could give too much,
And to these I spoke of giving lives,
When there was already another life upon the earth starving.

58

For what is given must be received, otherwise it is not given.
And to give a life to the earth,
When there is not enough food upon it to feed a new life
Is as though one has with one's own hand,
Done one of one's fellow human beings into death.

59

And to make goods of the fruits of the earth,
But so much that they cannot be received,
Is not giving but rather imprudent selfishness,
For many under the guise of this,
Seek to call their own lust for possessions by the name of helping others.

60

To let the grape wither on the vine,
Or the milk to sour in the vessel,
Or the wood to rot upon the ground,
Or the rich land to be washed into the sea,
Is away from the course of righteousness,
And maketh only one's power to give and bring forth children less.

61

Thus giving in Balance is the middle course between wasting and selfishness,
Even as pleasant warmth from a fire is midway between it and the cold.
And righteous children neither give too much nor too little,
And in this lies the way of Balance.

62

"YOU SPOKE WELL OF RECEIVING AS WELL AS GIVING,
"THAT IN THE END ALL SHOULD BE IN BALANCE,
"BUT HOW DID YOU SPEAK OF RECEIVING,
"THAT MANKIND SHOULD KNOW HOW TO RECEIVE AS WELL AS GIVE.

--- EATING AND DRINKING ---

63

Eating and drinking I said was receiving,
That in this lay the way to receive righteously,
That all gifts should be received as the food and drink into one's body,
And not for lust but for the need which has arisen.

64

For to eat righteously and live without sickness,
Is to eat only what can be used,
And not for the satisfaction of desire or lust for possessions,
Or to show that one can eat more luxuriously than one's neighbors.

65

So it is with the rest of being,
That even as you eat and drink,
So also shall ye make the wool and cotton into clothing,
And the forests into shelter,
And the water and the earth into power,
Neither taking more than is needed,
Nor starving in the midst of plenty.

66

And that in eating lies the plan of the way to higher and higher wisdom,
For in eating itself is the action of raising from a lower to a higher level

of existence,
And the ground becomes wheat,
And wheat becomes cattle,
And cattle becomes man,
And man becomes Your image at last in eternal peace,
When life is raising from a lower to a higher level.

67

For to kill a grain of wheat for the killing alone,
Is to have murdered one of the little lives around you,
But to have eaten it to give one greater strength,
Is to have raised it from its lowly station.

68

And the beast which is placed upon the feast table of righteousness,
Has been liberated from the punishment for its sinning,
For the greatest reward for any who have become truly a part of You,
Is to go forward to become Your image.

69

But they sin who would protect the beast from dying,
Whilst all about them are the cries of their own whom they have forgotten,
And they seek only to hide their own selfishness, laziness, and

irresponsibility,
Who say they must learn to love a beast first before they can put food into
the mouth of a baby,
These worship beasts as their Gods instead of You.

70

So the feast table of righteousness,
Is always to raise to a higher level of existence,
All that which is given you as the bounties of creation,
Even as the food well eaten,
And the wine well drunk,
Will give your body strength to continue the QUEST,
But eaten poorly, or in haste, or in wasting,
Will bring naught but sickness, death, and stench of dying all around you.

71

"BUT HOW DID YOU TEACH HOW ONE IS MADE WORTHY,
"TO GO FROM A LOWER TO A HIGHER LEVEL OF EXISTENCE?

72

By work,
By completing the creation.
That he who works prepares a place not only for others but for oneself.
That in working does love find its proof and definition,
That connecting love and work is the greatest prayer that can be offered.

73

For see the kindness in the eyes of a mother,
Who works to protect and minister to the needs of her baby,
And the strength and joy in the arms of the plowshareman,
Who knows that by it shall those he loves be fed.

74

But see the hate in the eyes of he who works,
Whose mind sees naught he is fitting together,
He loves naught and pays the punishment for his selfishness,
And his acts are cold, ill-formed, and mis-shapen.

75

To work well and love as one is working,
One must know that he is accomplishing what is needed,
Therefore fulfilling need is the way of working in righteousness,
And in this lies the key to all happiness.

--- SORROW---

76

"BUT DID YOU SHOW HOW TO FIND HAPPINESS?
"WHAT DID YOU SAY TO THOSE WHO CAME TO YOU IN SORROW?

77

I said that sorrow is work undone,
Is responsibility laid aside,
Is the task needed but not undertaken,
Is the fruit of waiting always for tomorrow.

78

Some said joy is only the reflection of sorrow,
I said joy is the result of living righteously.
The lazy in their sorrow said joy could come only through travail,
I said that they who lived by the way of creation,
Had found the way away from sorrow.

79

That only those who fight against Your laws,
Must know sorrow in order to gain wisdom.
That the righteous have found the way to peace without pain,
And only the wicked must be continually pained to keep

them from destroying others.

80

That sorrow is only Your creation uncompleted,
Joy is having found one's place through creating,
That happiness is knowing one is needed, and this comes of creating.
That righteous gratification is recognition for a task well done.

81

That creation is the way out of sorrow.
That the course away from happiness is ceasing to create.

82

That they are most happy who know they have created,
That the life is empty which has nothing to show for the time it has been given.

That Joy and Sorrow, are Heaven and Hell,
That one's acts build one or the other of these two homes.

--- HOME ---

83

"AND HOW DID YOU SHOW WHICH OF THESE TWO WILL BE BUILT?"

84

That the person who builds a house of criticisms,
Without offering to guide in a better manner,
Builds rooms of skepticism and belief in no one,
Builds a hearth of selfishness and a place only for oneself,
And will find naught but these as surroundings as one seeks peace.

85

But that the person who builds a house of help where ever help can be given,
Or faith and belief in all no matter how small,
Of love and a place for everyone in one's heart,
Will find oneself surrounded by a mansion,
This is a mansion as in Heaven one is promised.

86

That the divine plan,
Is to have all live in such a mansion,
In a Paradise of NO MORE DESTRUCTION OF ANYONE.

87

Love is the foundation of a home built upon a rock,
Hate is the foundation of a home built upon sand,
Happiness in marriage is the result of a home well built,

88

Children show how well a home has been built,
Barrenness (as a figure of speech), comes to those who wish others to build

for them,
Giving is the morter which holds together the bricks of a home well laid,
Selflessness is mortar which fails to hold together the parts of the home one
is building,
Selfishness is the mortar made without the cement or lime.

89

Eating and drinking is partaking of the joys of the security of a home well

built.
Starvation and poverty are the results of not having built one's home well.
That work is the way in which a home is built well,
And laziness is that which finds one with no shelter when the storm breaketh.

90

Joy is looking upon a house well built,
Sorrow is perceiving the time which one has wasted which could have been spent

building,
That the house of God is what each part of creation is helping to build,
That Heaven will be only as good as you personally make it.

--- CLOTHING ---

91

"BUT DID YOU TELL MANKIND HOW TO MAKE A HOME BEAUTIFUL?"

92

By clothing,
By the revealing of your home by clothing after it has been completed,
By the pride that covereth as a garment a task which has been well performed.

93

That they who think of themselves as naked and needing clothing,
Have lived so poor a life that their acts do not form their garments,
That the righteous use clothing to reveal rather than to hide,
That the guilty person looketh for a veil of lies to cover his deceit and

thus is often found naked.
(also see stanza 362)

94

That the bared breast of a woman,
Is the fountain of life for her newborn child,
And the expression of all her beauty to one eye,
While it is to another eye the symbol of evil, adultery, and guilt.
That one of these eyes is clothed with love,
And the other is naked with hypocrisy and deceit.

95

That the breast of a woman beautifully displayed,
By couching it in delicate satins,
Serves to make it only more beautiful to the mind which has lived righteously,
But serves as the hangman's noose,
To draw the cord around the neck of he who has said one thing to hide his

thoughts of something else.

96

If a life has been well built and lived,
Clothe it in such a manner that it will be noticed by all,
That only they who have been selfish or not been true to others,
Need use clothing to hide the house of their life.

97

That one's clothing is the total of all of one's acts,
It is beautiful and reveals beauty if the acts have been righteous,
But is a millstone around the neck of he who has lived dishonestly,
That one's clothing either hides or displays and is therefore the measure of

one's life.

--- BUYING AND SELLING ---

98

"BUT DID YOU REVEAL HOW TO RECEIVE THE REWARD OF BEING CLOTHED

BEAUTIFULLY?"

99

By a new way of buying and selling merchandise.
By revealing how to give and receive always in Balance,
By showing how to judge the righteous from the unrighteous.
